Results Week #3

This week I was concerned about the weigh in as I was sick early in the week and did not workout ...

but I got on the scale and just like that I lost another 2.4 pounds.

I believe it was the hard work the week before that showed up on the scale this morning as I did not eat or workout as I should have.

But today started another week for me... and I have already started back strong.

To all you out there that are trying to lose weight, I encourage you to find what works for you. For me without a doubt having the ActiTrainer is a constant reminder that I need to get up and get moving, is what works for me.

It also helps that my wife is also using the ActiTrainer and since we have a "Dual" account I know that at any time she can review all of my activity ... and I want to encourage her... so I just keep trying to find new and interesting ways to get in more steps / activity each day.

This week I am going to try to make it all week without eating out at the local restaurants. I enjoy cooking at home, but don't like all the mess... but when we do eat at home we usually see an increase in the amount of weight we lose.

19 days and Loving It

I have had the ActiTrainer now for 19 days and I love the device.

I find myself thinking more about it as someone who is always watching you. It's like knowing that your personal trainer is watching right now, constantly evaulating the effort that you are putting into every minute of your day.

I find that this thing helps me to help my wife with chores around the house... just so that I can get the extra steps I need in for the day.

When I am out shopping I will browse an extra store or two... just to walk a little farther, or I will park farther away from a building just to get in some more steps.

or I will add a few extra minutes to my workout to keep those totals increasing.

It is amazing that this little device that is worn on your hip... is constantly suggesting to my brain to do more... all without saying a word or making a single noise.

If you turn the display off... It doesn't even look like it is on... but it is... it is always on... always watching... always incouraging you to be your best today.

Results Week 2

Well that time is here again.... time to step on the scale and have all your effort evaluated for the week.

.2 lbs lost

What? I thought I was eating better.... but in actuality I wasn't and it showed... I know that week 2 is always a downer for most people... as a lot of people have trouble losing weight during week 2.. however I was working out daily.

I still lost though which was the good thing... as it isn't always about the quantity calories you eat... I have been reading lately that some people have foods that can trigger the body to store more water.

Basically I have to realize that there will be weeks like this... hopefully not too many more.

But I can alway hope for a bigger weight loss next week.

We all just have to stay focused, both on our eating and on our exercise.

Gaining Confidence

After being able to get up and get moving for the past 10 days while using the ActiTrainer and losing weight during the holidays... I am gaining confidence every day that I will be able to achieve my weight loss goal for 2008. My goal is to lose 120 pounds by New Years Eve.

I have been walking daily and then I upload the results to my online virtual trainer and see how I did... I can look back at other days results and see in detail my activity throughout the day. What I like about that is you can see periods of inactivity and you can identify what you were doing... like oh that is when I was sitting at my desk... or that hour was my drive home from work, and of course the oh my I watched tv for that long?

With the constant feedback from the ActiTrainer it helps you to set little goals that are really acheviable... like I want to make sure I get 10,000 steps in each day.. I can check my step count for the day at anytime on my ActiTrainer or I can upload the data to my Virtual Trainer and view my progress and then determine what I have to do to reach my daily goal... or you can just have a goal of doing a little bit better today than you did yesterday.

I have begun to try to make better choices in food this week... but I am far from being able to say that I am dieting... But I am confident that when I get on the scale on monday morning I will see some weight loss.

Week 1 Results

I just weighed in this morning and have lost 4.2 pounds. Which is great because it I have not been working on my eating portion yet. This first week I was concentrating on getting my 10,000 steps per day.

My Actitrainer said that my actitivity for the week burned more than 12,000 calorie above my BMR. and that in total I walked 80,553 steps or about 31 miles.

I am slowly going to try to eat better over the next few weeks...and I hope to keep my activity levels up.

Some side notes from my week:

If you live in the austin area and are looking for new workout shoes Bryan was very helpful at the Sports Authority store on I-35 between parmer and howard lane.

If you are looking for workout equipment Marty at Fitness in Motion is a great resource! He has helped answer all sorts of questions about fitness equipment. Fitness in Motion Austin store is located at 183 & Braker Lane. I believe they also have stores in Dallas and San Antonio.

50000 Steps Later

It is hard for me to describe the motivational force that is generated by this ActiTrainer device...

It allows you to know exactly how to be your best today... doing better than you did yesterday.

Well I have only had the ActiTrainer for 5 days now, but I really am hooked... each day I try to walk farther than the day before... and during my "workouts" I try to extend the time that my heart rate is elevated for.

I have not climbed on the scale yet... but I will do that every monday. I have heard that it is too easy to get demoralized by the scale, if you check it too often. I do however expect to see a loss of some weight as my pants are already fitting a little less snug and I was able to tighten my belt to the next belt hole. So even without the scale telling me so, I believe I am on the path to a thinner me.

To all you people out there using the ActiTrainer, I hope that you to are finding that armed with the information of your true total daily activity... that you to are seeing the results of your efforts on the scale and in how your clothes fit, and ultimately how you feel.

Got our presents a little early

Our ActiTrainer's have arrived this morning thanks to prompt shipping by Actigraph and the magic of Fedex.

Each of our devices was neatly packaged with all the accessories included.

I was able to install the software to communicate with the ActiTrainers and was able to successfully initialize our devices without incident. Only took about 10 minutes to get each one setup and started.

Placed the ActiTrainer in the provided belt holster and began doing my usual daily things.

After walking around the house for a few hours doing chores I was surprised how few steps this level of activity produced. I have read that you should try to walk 10,000 steps a day. I had no idea how short of this amount I have been all this time.

So after determining that I was going to have to walk some more... I got out of the house and went for a walk with our dog around the neighborhood. This added about 4,000 steps to my count but again I thought to myself I am a long way from 10,00 steps ... so then I went Christmas shopping for my wife... this is afterall what men are supposed to do on Christmas Eve.

And a few thousand steps later after finding the perfect gifts I was still only at 8 thousand steps.

How far can 10,000 steps be.... well by this time I was deterimined to get 10,000 steps in before Santa arrived. So I kept walking and finally after all this ... I made it 10,817 steps.
